Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring (ABPM)

ABPM, also known as ambulatory blood pressure monitoring, is a non-invasive method used to measure a person's blood pressure throughout the day and night. It involves wearing a small, portable device that automatically takes readings at regular intervals. ABPM can provide valuable information about a person's blood pressure patterns and help diagnose conditions such as hypertension.

How it works

A small, portable device is attached to a cuff on the upper arm, and it automatically inflates at set intervals (e.g., every 15-30 minutes during the day and every hour at night)

Purpose

ABPM is used to confirm a diagnosis of hypertension (high blood pressure), assess the effectiveness of blood pressure medication, and identify patterns like nocturnal hypertension (high blood pressure at night) or masked hypertension (normal blood pressure in the clinic but high at home).
